20-year-old Assam cricketer Riyan Parag was involved in an ugly spat with Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj in the Indian Premier League. The Rajasthan Royals cricketer copped a lot of blow by the social media users in the IPL for his attitude throughout the tournament. The youngster cleared the air on the much debated incident for the first time since the completion of the tournament and gave a full account of what happened in the middle.
Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, Parag turned up the heat against RCB bowlers in the final overs of the game. He hit Harshal Patel for 18 runs in the final over and ask he walked off the pitch, he got involved with the RCB players, in what looked like a verbal spat. Players from both the teams had to walk in and drag the players back for the game to resume.
Revealing the incident on streaming platform Rooter, Parag said that he was asked to behave like a kid by India pacer Mohammed Siraj.
“Last year, Harshal Patel had dismissed me when we were playing against RCB. I was walking back. Then, he made a hand gesture telling me to go away. I didn’t see that on the spot. I saw that when I went back to the hotel and saw the replay. It stuck in my mind since,” Parag recalled.

“Now, when I hit him (Harshal) in the last over, I did the same gesture. I didn’t say anything, I didn’t abuse. But then, Siraj called me. Harshal didn’t say anything,” Parag added.
“When the innings ended, Siraj called and said, ‘Hey, come here, come here’. He said, ‘you’re a kid, behave like a kid’. I told him, ‘bhaiya, I’m not saying anything to you’. By then, players from both the teams came and it ended there. Later, Harshal didn’t shake my hand. which I thought was a little immature,” Parag further said.
Riyan Parag was criticised by the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Simon Doull who did not like his attitude on the field. Parag even replied in a cryptic tweet indicating that nobody would remember these incidents in 20 years time.
The Assam cricketer has been a contentious choice in the playing XI for Rajasthan Royals, who seem to be putting faith on the player. Parag scored 183 runs in the 2022 edition of the tournament from 17 matches.
